Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is frustrated by the lack of rest given to his team after the Madrid derby in the Champions League and the away match against Villarreal in La Liga.
Ancelotti threatened not to play another match without a 72-hour rest period between matches. However, the reality is that other teams besides Real Madrid and Barcelona are suffering from the schedules set by the Spanish League for La Liga matches, which can be seen as evidence that they are not deliberately harming Real Madrid.
Real Sociedad is considered one of the teams most affected by the domestic league schedules due to the rest period being less than 72 hours between matches. The team has played nine matches in less than 72 hours this season, out of a total of 46 matches, a 19.6% rate.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported that Real Sociedad's rate is similar to Athletic Bilbao, who have suffered the same problem this season, although it is higher than Real Madrid, who have been forced to play only four matches under such circumstances.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Betis remains the team most affected by La Liga's fixture schedule, with numerous matches played with less than 72 hours of rest.
