Formula Technology at the Service of Ford Cars

Ford is partnering with Red Bull Powertrains to develop hybrid powertrain technology for the Formula 1 series, which will begin in 2026 and will be used by the Red Bull team. They have already produced more than 1,000 3D-printed parts for testing, including complex metal and polymer components designed to withstand the rigors of racing.

Ford leverages its extensive manufacturing experience and the expertise of various departments to ensure the quality and performance of the parts. Advanced testing methods, such as X-rays and CT scans, are used to evaluate the 3D-printed parts. The knowledge gained from this Formula 1 project is already benefiting Ford consumer vehicles, as evidenced by the identification of a headlight issue in an F-150 using race-derived scanning techniques.

Red Bull will use Honda engines in 2025 before switching to Ford engines in 2026.
